The W.H. & Betty J. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund was established with the Roscommon County Community Foundation in 2014. Mark Scott, fund initiator, wanted to honor his father and mother as well as help students who choose a career path “working with their hands.”
W.H. “Scotty” Scott owned and operated Scott’s Wood Products in Roscommon, a successful venture due in large part to the support of his wife, Betty. In later years, the business expanded to include excavating, septic services, and storage units. Scotty loved to play with his “Big Boy Toys.” If it had levers or a steering wheel, he could operate it and had fun doing so. Betty enjoyed providing daily meals for her working family and occasional sweet treats for “the guys” at the shop. She strove to create a home environment in which her family could relax and unwind.
The Fund is planned to be used to provide a scholarship to Roscommon Area students entering or enrolled in an accredited vocational, technical, or skilled trade school.
