The following are Endowment and “Special Project” Funds supporting our communities in Roscommon County.
Rubye Cunningham Memorial Fund-Supporting the Roscommon County Animal Shelter
Supporting the Roscommon County Animal Shelter- Income is used to supplement medical expenses and veterinary costs for animals housed at the Roscommon County Animal Shelter.
The Larry Eastley & Clare Fisher Eastley Animal Support Fund
Income is used to supplement the medical expenses and veterinary costs for the Roscommon County Animal Shelter and the Association to Rescue Kritters (ARK).
Viola J. Moore Animal Fund
Income is used to supplement the medical expenses and veterinary costs for the Roscommon County Animal Shelter, the Missaukee County Animal Shelter and the Association to Rescue Kritters (ARK).
Bonnie Biggar Music Fund
Income is used for supporting the K-12 music programs at the Roscommon Area Public Schools, including but not limited to the choir, band, jazz band, and steel drum band.
Gerrish-Higgins Educational Fund
Income is used for educational needs, including scholarships, for the Roscommon Area Public School District, its students and its faculty.
Houghton Lake Community School District Support Fund
Income is used for the charitable purposes of supporting projects, programs and educational materials for the Houghton Lake Community Schools and/or any other needs that may arise within the school district.
Houghton Lake Educational Foundation Fund
Income is used for educational needs, including scholarships, for the Houghton Lake Community Schools, its students and its faculty.
Kirtland Community College Educational Fund
Income is used for the educational needs of Kirtland Community College, the public schools of the four counties principally served by the College, or their students and faculty.
Alexa Luck Memorial Fund
Income is used to support literacy, the arts and educational services within Roscommon County.
Jim Mahoney Memorial – Music Program Support Fund
Income is used for the charitable purpose of supporting the Music programs at the Roscommon Middle School and High School, which may include, but not be limited to, the Band, Choir, Jazz Band and Steel Drum Band.
Annie Williams Rackerby Fund
Distributions from the Fund will support early childhood development for students in kindergarten through sixth grade in Roscommon County, Michigan.
Sarah Eulaine Tucker (Class of 1977) Fund
Income is used for projects, programs and activities of the Roscommon High School students and/or faculty in the departments or areas of English, Music, Social Studies or Foreign Languages.
Char Fitzgerald Literacy & Education Fund
This fund aims to enhance literacy for students in grades K-6 by removing obstacles to accessing books and educational materials through their school library.
Endowment for Higgins Lake
Income is used for projects, causes or activities serving to protect, improve, or increase appreciation of the natural environment and clean water of Higgins Lake.
Marguerite Gahagan Nature Preserve General Fund
Income is used to support and maintain the nature preserve and to encourage awareness of the need and value of conserving natural habitats and wildlife.
The John Morley Family, Higgins Lake Endowment Fund
Income is used for projects, activities, or programs serving to protect, improve, or increase appreciation of the natural environment and clean water of Higgins Lake.
Rogers Family Endowment for Houghton Lake
Income is used to support projects, causes, and activities which protect, improve, enhance or increase appreciation for the natural environment and clean water of Houghton Lake and its’ watersheds.
Roscommon County Lakes and Rivers Fund
Income is used for projects, causes or activities serving to protect, improve or increase appreciation of the natural environment and clean water of Roscommon County’s lakes and rivers.
Robert R. Thalner Fund
Income is used for projects, activities or programs serving to protect, improve or increase appreciation of the natural environment and clean water of Higgins Lake.
Marilyn Brown Memorial Fund
Income is used for charitable purposes of greatest need, as determined by the Fund Advisory Committee.
The Linda Chwan & Ken DePerro Memorial Fund
Income is used to support various charitable, educational, scientific, recreational and cultural organizations in Roscommon County.
The Community Impact Fund
This fund was created by the Roscommon County Community Foundation in honor of 25 years of service to the community of Roscommon County. Income is unrestricted and applied to the everchanging needs and support to the community.
Cornerstone Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the areas of greatest need.
The Erickson Family Fund
The Fund shall support various educational, scientific, recreational or cultural purposes throughout Roscommon County.
Greatest Human Needs Fund
Income is used to support organizations that provide nutrition for our communities, assistance to the elderly, support young families, provide shelter and housing assistance and support for Veterans.
Morley Foundation Fund
Income is unrestricted and designated to enhance the quality of life in Roscommon County.
Nester Family Charitable Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide support for charitable, benevolent, and other public purposes.
Roscommon County General Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the greatest need. This Fund is an extremely flexible and important tool for the RCCF.
St. Helen General Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the greatest needs in the St. Helen area.
The Wade Family Donor Advised General Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the areas of greatest need.
Jenni’s Foundation-Michigan Cancer Support Fund
Income is used to assist cancer patients coping with the financial burdens associated with their diagnosis in partnership with MidMichigan Community Health Services Client Assistance Program.
Roscommon County Health Improvement Endowment Fund
Income will provide grants in support of community-wide medical health initiatives with priority given to programs that serve at-risk or low-income residents of Roscommon County.
Roscommon County Tobacco Settlement Fund
Income is used for health-related programs or activities for senior citizens and youth in Roscommon County.
Habitat for Humanity General Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the greatest need within the organization.
Houghton Lake Public Library – Excellence Fund
Income is used to enhance library programming and services that may not be covered in the operating budget.
Houghton Lake Rotary Club General Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the greatest needs in the Houghton Lake / Prudenville area, as recommended by the Houghton Lake Rotary Club.
Lynda’s Food Pantry Fund
Fund is an endowment to ensure the perpetuity of the Roscommon County Food Pantry and operational costs.
Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center Fund
Fund is used for needs such as staff and volunteer training, equipment, or as determined by the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center Board of Directors.
RCCF Independence Fund
Fund is used to support the RCCF administrative needs, allowing for community outreach programs and projects, and to enhance programming and services that may not be covered in the operating budget.
Rob & Sue Morley Family Administrative Fund
Fund is used to provide support for the general operations of the Roscommon County Community Foundation as needed.
Doug Allen Fire and EMS Support Fund
Income is used to provide educational and general support for Township Fire and EMS departments in Roscommon County.
Zonta Club – Women’s & Children’s Fund for Health, Domestic Security and Education
Income is used for supporting projects & programs for women and children, with emphasis on projects that promote health, domestic security or education among that population.
Roscommon County Recreation Fund
Income is used for projects, causes, activities or persons serving to protect, improve or enhance recreational opportunities in Roscommon County.
Weede Family Community Recreation Fund
Income is used to support recreational projects and programs that promote health and fitness.
Ambassador Club
Sponsorship income from multiple organizations, businesses, and individuals is used to support local non-profit organizations every year through the #CommunityChoice contest.
Tom & Jan Richardson Family Endowment for Roscommon Area Historical Society
Income will provide funding to assist with the costs of maintaining the Society’s historical buildings and grounds.
Thomas Niekamp Scholarship Fund
Income is used for scholarships for graduates or graduating high school students from any Roscommon County School who are continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school.
The Lions Club Scholarship Fund
Income is used for scholarships for graduates or graduating high school student(s) from Roscommon County who is continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school.
Bertl Family Scholarship Fund
Income is used for scholarships for graduates or graduating high school students from Roscommon Area Public Schools, Houghton Lake Community Schools, Charlton Heston Academy, or homeschool students who are continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school.
Kyle Akin Scholarship Fund
Income is used for scholarships for graduating seniors from Roscommon County schools who are continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, trade/technical/vocational school.
Karen and Frank Arleth Memorial Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon High School graduates.
Grace Bernardo, M.D. Memorial Health Careers Scholarship
Income is used to provide scholarships to Roscommon County area students entering in a health career education/training program.
Lawrence C. Dashner Scholarship Fund
Income is used for graduated or graduating high school students from any Roscommon County school who is continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, trade/technical/vocational school. The qualifying fields of study include industrial technologies, public services, and health occupations.
The Jack Danieleski Scholarship
Income is used to provide scholarships for graduating students of Houghton Lake and Roscommon High Schools, and/or to high school graduates that are primarily those related to members of the Knights of Columbus Council #6548.
Kelly Dunmire Memorial Scholarship
Income is used to provide a freshman scholarship to a female Roscommon High School graduating senior who participates in sports, has a financial need and intends to major in the dental or medical field.
Fidelity Chapter #50 – Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship
Income is used to provide a scholarship for a Roscommon High School graduate with affiliation to the Masonic Temple.
Ruth and Ralph Fisher Scholarship
Income is used to provide a freshman year scholarship for a graduating student from either Roscommon or Houghton Lake High school. The student recipient must have demonstrated a financial need, a C+ (2.25) or better GPA, and a history of Community Service.
Evelyn Fraser Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon High School graduates.
Ava Raye Gasper Scholarship Fund
Income will benefit graduating seniors of Houghton Lake High School that will be continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school. Student must have a minimum C+ (2.25) GPA or higher at time of application to qualify.
Gerrish-Higgins Roscommon Alumni Association Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon High School graduates.
The Rex and Arlene Gillen Scholarship
Income is used to award 2 – 4 year renewable scholarships for Houghton Lake Community School graduates residing in Denton and Roscommon Townships . The student recipient must demonstrate a financial need, a C+ (2.25) or better GPA, and prove residency in Denton or Roscommon Township.
Char Goddard Memorial Scholarship
Income is used to provide an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from Roscommon High School.
Forest and Rita Hacker Family Sportsmanship Scholarship
Student athletes nominated for this scholarship must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior of Houghton Lake High School. To be nominated, a Letter of Support is submitted by the Athletic Director, Principal, Superintendent and/or coaches.
Robert A. Hess Memorial Scholarship
Income used to award an annual scholarship for graduating students of Roscommon High School interested in pursuing a degree in law and/or the legal field.
HLHS Class of 1983 Memorial Scholarship Fund
Income is used to provide scholarships to graduating seniors at Houghton Lake High School. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
Houghton Lake Rotary Club Memorial Scholarship
Income is used to provide one or more freshman year scholarships for a graduating student from Houghton Lake High School who have demonstrated a strong history in community service and academic record.
Houghton Lake Sports Booster Scholarship Fund
Income will benefit graduating seniors of Houghton Lake High School who are continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have participated in one sport every year for four years.
Mike M. & Patricia M. Ignat Scholarship
Income is used to award an annual scholarship for graduating students of Houghton Lake High School, interested in pursuing a degree in Hospitality or Dietetics.
The Mr. J’s Buckeye Nuts College Scholarship Fund
Income is used to support second (Sophomore), third (Junior) and fourth (Senior) year college educational costs, for Roscommon Area Public School graduates, with special consideration given to students attending Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University (Ohio), Central Michigan University, University of Cincinnati (Ohio), Michigan State University or the University of Michigan.
Robert J. Kunik Memorial Scholarship
Income is used to provide a freshman year scholarship for a graduating student from Houghton Lake High School who has shown an interest in pursing an education in the Arts, including English, Communication, Literature, Music, Writing/Creative Writing and Theater/Drama.
Layton International Scholarship
Income will be used to award a Scholarship to graduates of Roscommon High School with a GPA greater than 2.25 who plan to study outside of the U.S. Preference given to students studying in Asia. All majors of study will be considered.
Bobbe Morley Scholarship Fund
Income will be used to award a scholarship to graduates of Roscommon High School who are continuing their education at an accredited college, university, community college, or trade/technical/vocational school. The student(s) must have a 2.25 GPA or higher to qualify.
Donald W. & Beverly Nester Memorial Scholarship
Income is used to award a freshman year scholarship at an accredited trade school, junior college or four year college for graduating students of Roscommon High School with an interest in the automotive industry. The student recipient must have demonstrated a financial need and a minimum C+ (2.25) high school GPA.
Ralph, Thela, and Kurt Ostling Memorial Scholarship Fund
Income is used to award an annual scholarship for graduating students of Roscommon High School. Student must have a minimum C+ (2.25) high school GPA at time of application to qualify.
Patriot Scholarship Fund
Income is used to award an annual scholarship for graduating students of Charlton Heston Academy. Special consideration will be given to students with financial need. Student must have a minimum C+ (2.25) high school GPA at time of application to qualify.
Roscommon Rotary Club General Fund
Income is unrestricted and applied to the greatest needs in the Higgins Lake / Roscommon area, as recommended by the Roscommon Rotary Club. Fund is currently used for scholarships.
Roscommon Soccer Teams Scholarship
Income is used to provide freshman year only financial scholarships for players on the Roscommon High School Soccer Teams. To be eligible, the graduate must have been a member of the squad or manager for three (3) years. The scholarship will provide assistance with tuition, books and lab fees for a freshman to attend an accredited trade school, junior college or four year college or university within two years following graduation from Roscommon High School.
Andrew Schmidt Trades Scholarship
Income is used to provide scholarships to Roscommon County area students entering into a skilled craft field of study through an accredited trade/technical/vocational school, college, university or community college. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in a qualified apprenticeship program.
The W.H. & Betty J. Scott Memorial Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon County students entering or enrolled in a vocational, technical or trade school program.
Clyde F. Shaltz Memorial Scholarship Fund
Income is used to provide scholarships to graduates of Charlton Heston Academy, Houghton Lake Community Schools, or Roscommon Area Public Schools; who are in their second, third, and fourth year of college and have been accepted into a teacher education program leading to elementary or secondary teacher certification in Michigan. Special consideration will be given to Roscommon Area Public School graduates, students attending Northern Michigan University, and students with the greatest financial need.
Ford and Marguerite Silsby Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon High School graduates.
Steuernol and McLaren Funeral Homes Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon High School graduates from the St. Helen area.
Michael R. Treml Memorial Athletic Scholarship
Income is used for an annual college freshman scholarship, presented to a graduating student from the Roscommon High School. The qualifying student must have participated in at least two high school athletic sports programs and have maintained a C+ (2.25) or better GPA.
William C. Williams (Class of 1950) Memorial Scholarship
Income is used for scholarships for Roscommon High School graduates who will attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Sharon A. Hacker Nursing Scholarship Fund
Income is used for scholarships for Houghton Lake High School graduates with plans to pursue an education in nursing at an accredited college, university community college, or trade/technical/vocational school.
Harry & Marjorie Walbridge Scholarship Fund
Income is used for scholarships for graduating students from Roscommon Area Public Schools, Houghton Lake Community Schools, or Charlton Heston Academy. Students must have plans to continue their education at an accredited college, university, community college or trade/technical/vocational school.
Friends for Safe Schools Fund
Funding is used to purchase and install “The Boot” security device in Roscommon County schools.
Roscommon County Health Services Fund
Fund is used for health services, health promotion, or other health care related projects which have been identified as needs and priorities within Roscommon County or North-Central Mid Michigan.
Roscommon County Mental Health Services Fund
The Fund supports mental health and substance abuse programs and services provided in Roscommon County.
Roscommon Area District Library Building Fund
Fund is used to provide financial support to the Roscommon Area District Library, specific to the Building Campaign and the development of the new library site.
Roscommon Area District Library Community Outreach Fund
Fund is used to provide support to the Roscommon Area District Library, its fundraising, marketing and community outreach programs and projects as directed by the RADL Board of Directors.
Ryan McDonald Memorial Fund
Fund is used to support development costs of the Houghton Lake Little League – Graham / McDonald Sports Complex.
Higgins Lake/Roscommon Non-Motorized Trail Way System – Special Project Fund
Fund is used for the following specific purpose(s): To support funding needed to develop the Higgins Lake / Roscommon Non-Motorized Trail Way System. This would include, but would not be limited to, contractor fees, supplies, materials, licenses and/or permits.
Thomas L. McNamara Memorial Rotary Parks Fund
This Fund is used for projects and programs which sustain the development, maintenance and preservation of the parks and recreational activities within Roscommon County.
Urgent Needs Fund
This fund is used to support organizations that are working with the people and families that have been directly impacted by the Coronavirus and the economy. To be eligible, you must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, school, church, or government agency.
“Big Buck Open” Athletic Scholarship
Income is used to assist Gerrish-Higgins Roscommon high school students to attend summer athletic camps. The Fund will be used to provide a maximum $100.00 Scholarship, with the total number of scholarships determined by funds available.
Howard B. “Corky” Gaylor Memorial Fund
Income is used to support projects, programs, and services for youth in Roscommon County. Preference will be given to at risk youth programs.
Kimberly Mires Athletic and Music Scholarship
Income is used to assist Roscommon Middle School (grades 5-11) female students to attend out-of-county personal advancement camps for athletics or music.
Roscommon Area Youth Booster Club Fund
Provides support for academic, athletic and fine arts programs at Roscommon Area Public Schools.
Roscommon County Kellogg Youth Fund
Income is used for youth activities, programs, and projects within Roscommon County. All grants are determined solely by the members of the Roscommon County Youth Advisory Council (YAC).
Jim “Smitty” Smith Athletic Fund
Income is used to assist 8th-11th grade Roscommon High School students attend athletic summer camps.
Larry Sumerix Memorial – Summer Music Scholarship Fund
Income is used to assist Roscommon Middle and High School students to attend Summer Music Camps and enrichment programs, based on student / family need.
Richard & Margaret Torongo Memorial Scholarship
Income is used to assist 5th – 8th grade Roscommon Middle School students to attend athletic or fine arts summer camps.
