Ruth and Ralph Fisher valued education and realized what a profound difference an education can make in a person’s life. They had three children, two daughters, Barbara and Susie and a son, Doug. The Fishers took great delight in helping people and once Ruth became a widow, she wanted to establish this Scholarship Fund to honor her late husband. Ruth took great pride in knowing that she and Ralph would have a legacy forever in this community with this memorial scholarship.
Ruth Fisher lived at the Roscommon Brook Retirement Village and had a wonderful sense of humor. She wrote in her journal nearly every day and at 95 years old, still exhibited a great love of life when she passed in 2011.
The Ruth and Ralph Fisher Scholarship was established with the Roscommon County Community Foundation in July of 2009. The scholarship is awarded as a freshman year scholarship, for a graduating student from either Roscommon or Houghton Lake High School. The student must have demonstrated a financial need, have a C+ (2.25) or better high school GPA, and a history of Community Service.
