RCCF Honors Past President Diane Nielsen for Nine Years of Dedicated Service

Roscommon, MI — The Roscommon County Community Foundation (RCCF) proudly honors Diane Nielsen for her exceptional leadership and commitment during her nine-year tenure on the Board of Trustees since 2016 and as Board President from July 2023-2025. Under her steady and compassionate leadership, the Foundation has deepened its impact across Roscommon County—supporting local nonprofits, students, and essential community initiatives.

Since Diane has served on the board, RCCF has granted over $2.26 million to nonprofit organizations, schools, government agencies, and scholarship recipients. The Foundation now manages 104 charitable funds, each dedicated to enriching the quality of life in Roscommon County.

Throughout her service as trustee and in her presidency, Diane has been the heart of the Foundation’s progress, bringing forward not only strong leadership, but a set of personal values that reflect the very mission of RCCF. She is known for her compassion, empathy, and commitment to continuous learning, along with her ability to build meaningful relationships and a genuine passion for the community.

Executive Director Suzanne Luck offered a heartfelt tribute:

“From the very beginning, one word has consistently come to mind: doer. Diane embodies this spirit wholeheartedly—always ready to roll up her sleeves and contribute in meaningful ways. Whether offering her time or sharing her deep well of knowledge and insight, she does so with humility and heart. Her willingness to lead in moments of uncertainty reflects not only her strength, but also who she is—someone who shows up, steps forward, and supports others with grace and resolve.”

In addition to her presidency, Diane has served on nearly every major RCCF committee, including the Executive Committee, Governance Committee, Development Committee, Houghton Lake Education Fund Advisory Committee, Grant Committees, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She also co-hosted RCCF’s Scholarship Awards Night in both 2024 and 2025, celebrating local students with her signature warmth and enthusiasm.

Beyond her Foundation work, Diane is the Director of Grants and School-Based Health Services at MidMichigan Community Health Services and currently serves as Secretary of the Houghton Lake Rotary Club. Her deep commitment to service and philanthropy has made her a guiding voice in the Roscommon County community.

Diane has also personally supported RCCF through her own philanthropy—championing local giving by encouraging residents to “Keep It in the Community.” She believes deeply in RCCF’s role in ensuring gifts made locally have lasting, meaningful impact in Roscommon County.

Reflecting on her time at RCCF, Diane shared:

“It’s been my pleasure to be part of the community foundation. I can’t say enough about the wonderful people I got a chance to meet and serve with over the years—from foundation staff, board members, donors, and grantees. I wish the foundation many years of success and growth. Even though I’m leaving the board, I still plan to support RCCF in any way I can.”

Board members expressed deep appreciation for her legacy. Trustee Ben Elliott noted,

“Thank you so much for the incredible sacrifice and commitment to moving our mission forward. We are so lucky to have worked under your leadership!”

Trustee Troy Romancky added,

“Thank you for your leadership, grace, and time! You have left this foundation better through your dedication.”

As Diane passes the torch to new leadership, she remains a dedicated advocate for RCCF’s future and a lifelong ambassador for the power of local philanthropy. The Roscommon County Community Foundation is forever grateful for her service and enduring impact.

At her final meeting as Board President, Diane was honored by the Board of Trustees and presented with a commemorative award reading:

“Diane Nielsen
In deep gratitude for leading with heart
and commitment to RCCF’s mission
2016 – 2025”

Diane’s leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on our community and the Foundation she helped guide and grow.
