Individuals & Families

At the Roscommon County Community Foundation, we believe in the power of community and the impact of giving. There are many ways individuals and families can support our mission and make a lasting difference in Roscommon County. Whether you’re interested in making a one-time gift, planning your legacy, or creating a fund that reflects your philanthropic goals, we offer several options to fit your needs.

Giving Options

With over 100 funds, from scholarships to funds that provide grants to nonprofit organizations for community initiatives and projects, your gift to the Roscommon County Community Foundation can be maximized with the gifts of other donors that share your values. You can also establish a new charitable fund to meet your own charitable giving goals.

You can transfer assets such as cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, or even personal property to your Community Foundation. Your gift qualifies for maximum charitable benefit under state and federal law.

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to RCCF. This allows you to give up to $100,000 per year without counting the distribution as taxable income. A QCD is an excellent way to support the Foundation while meeting your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) obligations.

You can name RCCF as a beneficiary of your retirement accounts, life insurance policies, or other financial assets. This is a simple and effective way to support the Foundation without modifying your will or trust. By doing so, you ensure that your legacy continues to benefit the community.

Planned giving allows you to make a significant contribution to RCCF while also providing for your family’s future. By including the Foundation in your will or trust, you can create a lasting legacy that reflects your values and supports the causes you care about.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a flexible and convenient way to manage your charitable giving. You can make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund over time. This option allows you to involve your family in philanthropy and support multiple causes through one fund. See DAF Frequently Asked Questions here.

A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) allows you to make a significant gift to RCCF while receiving a fixed income for life. This option provides you with financial security and the satisfaction of knowing that your gift will support the Foundation’s mission long into the future.

Establish a Fund

Establishing an endowed fund at the Roscommon County Community Foundation is a meaningful way to create a lasting legacy without the costs associated with creating a private trust. An endowed fund allows you to support the causes you care about in perpetuity, with the principal amount invested and only the earnings used for grantmaking. This ensures that your philanthropic impact continues for generations, benefiting the community year after year. Our team is here to guide you through the process and help you achieve your charitable goals.

An endowed fund is a permanent fund where the principal amount is invested, and only the earnings are used to support charitable causes. This ensures that your gift continues to benefit the community indefinitely, providing a lasting legacy that supports the causes you care about year after year.

Starting an endowed fund at the Roscommon County Community Foundation is a straightforward process. First, you’ll work with our team to determine your charitable goals and the type of fund that best suits your needs. There are no costs associated with creating an endowed fund, making it an accessible option for lasting philanthropy. Once the fund agreement is signed, your gift is invested, and the earnings are used to make grants according to your wishes.

At the Roscommon County Community Foundation, we offer a variety of funds to match your charitable intentions:

  • Unrestricted Funds: Allow the foundation to address the most pressing needs in the community as they arise.
  • Field of Interest Funds: Support specific areas of interest, such as education, health, or the arts.
  • Designated Funds: Provide ongoing support to specific nonprofit organizations chosen by the donor.
  • Donor Advised Funds: Allow donors to recommend grants to charitable organizations over time.
  • Scholarship Funds: Help students pursue their educational goals.
  • Agency Endowment Funds: Established by nonprofit organizations to provide a perpetual source of income for their operations.
