Wes Shropp, a Financial Advisor from the Iles Schropp Group of Merrill Lynch, spoke with students from the Roscommon County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) at their April meeting. The topic of the presentation was youth philanthropy. Students learned ways that they can contribute to their community and to charities, and were encouraged to share their ideas.
The goal of the RCCF YAC group is to not only recommend grants within the community, but to develop a greater understanding of philanthropy in today’s youth. Mr. Shropp has had much experience in the area of youth philanthropy, and shared his inspiration with the students.
“I was excited to learn different things for us to try in YAC,” Roseann Johnson, YAC member from Charlton Heston Academy, said of the meeting. “I definitely think the presentation was informative.”
Each month, different topics, such as sobriety, suicide awareness, and human trafficking have presented. With the school year ending, this was the last guest speaker for the 2015/2016 YAC group; meetings will resume in the fall. If you are an 8th -12th grade student at any of the 5 schools in Roscommon County and are interested in joining YAC, or would like to attend one of these meetings, speak with your school’s YAC advisor.
