Sharon Hacker, along with her husband Randy, spent time between Houghton Lake and Fenton. Sharon worked in the propane industry for most of her life, she even was the editor for the Propane Journal. Randy established and ran his own trucking company. Sharon’s real passion was to be a nurse, one she was unable to fulfill with life’s circumstances. Although Sharon couldn’t fulfill her dream, she still cared for others and showed this by volunteering at Genesys Hospital, The Salvation Army and The Mott Foundation. Sharon sadly lost her long battle with cancer, in September of 2022.
To celebrate Sharon’s life and her dream to become a nurse, Randy established the Sharon A. Hacker Nursing Scholarship Fund. His wish was to promote and encourage others, in Sharon’s memory, to pursue their education and fulfil their potential. The criterion for the scholarship is a graduating high school student from Houghton Lake High School with a grade point average of 2.25 or higher. This student must have plans to continue their education to become a nurse at an accredited college, university, community college, trade/ technical/ vocational school.
