Members of the Roscommon County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) spent the month of November focusing on best practices. Two of those highlighted this month included attending a regional training and evaluating the effectiveness of grantmaking.
RCCF staff, YAC students and advisors attended a regional training, hosted by the Council of Michigan Foundations and the Cadillac Area Community Foundation. The meeting, held at Baker College in Cadillac, and included YAC members from four area Community Foundations. Students came together to participate in grantmaking activities and listen to speakers discuss topics such as endowment funds, fund development, and leadership.
In addition to attending regional training, YAC students visited the Houghton Lake Public Library. This past spring, YACers recommended grant funding to the library’s Lego Club. The goal of the Lego Club is to “develop skills through both creative play and STEM planning that feature technology, creative play, and mechanical engineering.” During the visit, students and advisors participated in an engineering activity, and learned more about the library’s programming for youth.
Together we are making a difference in Roscommon County. Are you interested in joining YAC? Contact your school’s YAC advisor for more information, or contact RCCF at (989) 275-3112.
