Roscommon County Community Foundation (RCCF) is pleased to announce that they have partnered with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Roscommon County Blodgett Memorial Airport and the Roscommon Area Pilots Association (RAPA) to provide funding for their new program, a monthly Veterans coffee hour meeting. RCCF’s Roscommon County Mental Health Services Fund provided the initial funding to get the program off the ground. At the most recent coffee hour a total of 42 veterans were in attendance.
This year was also the start of an Annual Veterans Appreciation Day where local pilots from RAPA donated their time and took Veterans on an airplane ride exploring Roscommon County. Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Glenn King, was the first in the air on the day of flights. 41 Veterans were able to receive flights.
The Veterans Coffee Hour is held the first Thursday of each month at the Roscommon County Blodgett Memorial Airport located at 5218 E Houghton Lake Dr., Houghton Lake, MI 48629. Coffee hour is open to any Veteran who wishes to attend and runs from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. During Coffee Hour there are no agendas, schedules, or speeches, just refreshments, snacks, and good conversation between fellow Veterans.
