The Roscommon County Community Foundation (RCCF) has awarded a $1000 grant to the Mid Michigan Big Brothers Big Sisters through the Roscommon County General Fund and the Roscommon County Tobacco Settlement Fund.
Big Brothers Big Sisters serves youth by pairing them with a mentor, which supports the emotional and interpersonal development of the youth. However, there are more youth in need of a mentor than there are mentors. The grant awarded by the RCCF funds awareness events so that Big Brothers Big Sisters can reach more potential volunteers and get children involved in the program. Cortney Leinaar, Caseworker at Big Brothers Big Sisters, commented on her experience- “My favorite part is seeing the kids be happy. The change in them is so great, from when they get paired to when they become community members.”
