The Roscommon County Community Foundation (RCCF) is excited to announce that they have awarded a $2,500 grant to the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center (NMCAC) through a family donor advised fund. This grant allowed two NMCAC staff members to attend the 30th Annual International Trauma Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
The mission of the NMCAC is to reduce the trauma of child abuse and neglect by providing prevention, intervention and advocacy. Children who come in for services can receive a specialized medical exam, an interview with a trained forensic interviewer, and therapy sessions.
Adequate staff training rooted in evidence-based practices is essential for the proper care of children. During training, the staff learned more about how to support children who are victims of abuse, and how to educate and inform the community about trauma.
