The Roscommon County Community Foundation (RCCF) recently provided a $297.52 grant to Houghton Lake Community Schools to assist with expenses associated with their Pathways to Potential program. Grant funding was provided by the Houghton Lake Educational Foundation Fund.
For the past two years, Collins Elementary School has participated in the Pathways to Potential Anti-Truancy Program through the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). “Rewards are given in the form of “Brag Tags” to K-3 rd grade students at the beginning of each month for perfect attendance during the previous month,” according to project coordinator, Shad Fish.
Grant Funding was used to purchase the “Brag Tags,” necklaces announcing the student’s perfect attendance. “Students are always very excited when they receive their Brag Tags. Many students do not want to miss school, which has reduced the overall number of student absences,” states Fish.
