Position Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Development Manager is responsible for the general oversight and day-to-day operation of development operations including, but not limited to, asset (fund) development/fundraising activities, marketing, promotion, special events, and support for the marketing and fundraising volunteers. This position requires a close work relationship with the Executive Director, the RCCF Board of Trustees, and its Development Committee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fund Development
- Plans (with the input of the Executive Director and/or Marketing Committee) and oversees all development activities of RCCF.
- Leads the creation of an annual development plan
- Makes personal calls on prospective donors.
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to prepare quality grant requests.
- Plans and attends RCCF functions including special events for development purposes.
- Coordinates scheduling of development activities, RCCF events, meetings, etc.
- Prepares reports for the Board and Executive Director as required and necessary.
- Works collaboratively with staff to maintain donor and fund development records.
- Works collaboratively with the Board and Executive Director to identify planned giving prospects.
- Responsible for organizing the Board of Trustees and other volunteers to help the RCCF say “Thank You” and involve the Board in other meaningful ways to expand the circle of support.
Marketing
- Meets regularly with the Development Committee to develop and execute a marketing program for RCCF
- Prepares and updates content for the RCCF website
- Works with appropriate staff and consultants to create all RCCF collateral materials including, but not limited to, brochures, newsletters, special projects, and annual reports.
- Develops and implements social media and electronic communications to key audiences
- Meets with consultants, including photographers, videographers, and webmaster/web liaisons, to complete assignments as needed.
- Develops and distributes press releases, newsletters, and annual reports
- Works collaboratively with staff to maintain mailing lists.
Community Awareness
- Talks to the general public through television, radio and print media.
- Schedules regular presentations to service clubs, community groups and potential funding organizations– both off and on-site. Provides consistent messages to educate and recruit new support.
Other duties as required
- Completes all other assignments as required by the Executive Director and/or Board.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates professional competency and skills in:
- Working with a wide range of constituents including donors, volunteers, staff, Board members, performers and partner organizations
- Financial management, reporting and budgeting
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations related to fundraising
- Project management
- Communication, both written and oral, to effectively convey information to a wide variety of constituents, agencies, to prepare written appeals, contracts and reports as well as strong presentation skills
- Fund development, including securing contributions from private donors
- Use of progressive fundraising techniques including online and social media strategies
- Use of computer programs for e-mail, PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- 2 to 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, fund development or related field.
- Demonstrated success in increasing revenue from fund development.
- Highly developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; media relations experience preferred.
- Proficient in advanced computer skills like word processing, database management, and graphics/publishing/photography software as well as website development.
- Self-starter, able to work with minimum supervision.
- Outstanding organizational skills, and ability to plan and prioritize projects to meet multiple demands of the Foundation.
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and provide evidence of auto liability insurance.

Reporting Relationship: Executive Director
Compensation: Exempt status; salaried; annually $40,000 – $50,000

Hours: Full-time position requiring on-site presence in the office Monday to Thursday, with availability for Fridays, nights and weekends as needed.
