Vanessa Ann Varner, 36
Roscommon County Emergency Management Director
Vanessa Varner serves as the Emergency Management Director for Roscommon County, a role she embraced after discovering her passion for emergency preparedness in 2022. A 2009 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, Vanessa initially began her career as a Juvenile Officer and later served as the District Court Probation Officer for Roscommon County. Her dedication to the community has been a constant throughout her career, from initially working in the criminal justice system earlier on in her career to ensuring the safety and preparedness of the entire county as the Emergency Management Director.
Vanessa is a dedicated wife to Brian and mother to Heath (14) and Barrett (8). Despite a busy schedule filled with family activities and sporting events, she tirelessly works to keep her community ready for any disaster. Since taking on her role in Emergency Management, Vanessa has achieved her Professional Emergency Management certification through the State of Michigan in August 2022 and completed the FEMA Basic Academy in 2024. She also serves as the Secretary for the Region 7 Homeland Security Planning Board and is an Instructor for both Incident Command Systems (ICS) and Michigan Critical Incident Management Systems (MI-CIMS) for the State of Michigan.
