Rachel VanWormer, 39
Family Nurse Practitioner at McLaren Primary Care
Rachel VanWormer has called St. Helen home since she was five years old, when her parents moved her and her three siblings to the area. After graduating from Roscommon High School in 2003, she initially pursued a pre-law major at Central Michigan University but soon realized that her true calling was in nursing. She transferred to Kirtland Community College and graduated with her RN in 2008.
Rachel began her nursing career at Grayling Hospital, where she worked on the medical unit for 18 months before transferring to the OB department, where she remained until 2015. During this time, she earned her BSN and set her sights on making an even bigger impact in her community. In 2016, she graduated with her MSN/FNP and took a position at McLaren Primary Care in St. Helen, where she continues to work today. Rachel sees patients of all ages and is dedicated to helping everyone be the happiest, healthiest version of themselves. Her commitment to lifelong learning recently led her to complete a certification in Functional Nutrition, further enhancing the care she provides.
Rachel’s deep connection to her community is evident in her work and personal life. She loves living and working in a place where people come together to help one another, whether raising funds, providing support to neighbors, or welcoming newcomers. For Rachel, her job allows her to think of this community as family. She celebrates every victory and mourns every loss alongside her patients and neighbors.
Rachel is supporting the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center Fund.
