Michelle M. Maloney, 29
Roscommon Middle School Principal
Michelle Maloney, originally from Romeo, Michigan, found her passion for education early on. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 2016 and began her career at Roscommon Elementary School, where she spent five years creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment for her 3rd-grade students. During her time at RES, she also founded the RES Art Club in partnership with RCCF through a grant, providing young students with a creative outlet.
In 2018, Michelle returned to MSU to pursue a Master’s in K-12 Administration and took on the role of interim principal at Roscommon Middle School in November 2021. Michelle’s favorite part of being a principal is interacting with her students throughout the day and building strong, meaningful relationships with them, their families, and the community. The collaborative and family-oriented culture at Roscommon Area Public Schools inspires Michelle to continue serving her community with dedication and passion.
Although Michelle initially chose to teach in the Roscommon area because of her fond childhood memories of summers spent at Higgins Lake, she has since fallen in love with the strong sense of community that Roscommon and Roscommon Area Public Schools offer. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys hiking local trails, running, and working out at the CRAF center.
Michelle loves how the traditions and events in Roscommon, such as Christmas in the Village, bring the community closer together. Whether decorating trees to support the schoolhouse, running the Rudolph 5K, or enjoying the parade of lights, Michelle treasures the sense of connectedness in Roscommon.
As both a principal and homeless liaison at Roscommon Middle School, Michelle works closely with families in need, connecting them with resources within the community. She is continually amazed by the outpouring of support from local businesses, foundations, and clubs whenever she reaches out for assistance.
