Crystal Baetz, 37
1st Sergeant, U.S. Army Reserves & Owner/Instructor at The Grey Jiu-Jitsu
Crystal Baetz has dedicated her life to service, both in the military and within her community. A proud graduate of Houghton Lake High School, Crystal has been an active member of the U.S. Army Reserves since 2006. She currently holds the rank of 1st Sergeant (E8) and is preparing to deploy to Poland for a year, leading her company in service abroad.
In addition to her military career, Crystal has made a significant impact in Roscommon County through her work in as a 911 Dispatcher and as a business owner. Since 2016, she served as a dispatcher for Roscommon County, a role she recently stepped away from to prioritize her family before her upcoming deployment.
In 2018, upon returning from a previous deployment, Crystal and her family founded The Grey Jiu-Jitsu in St. Helen. Her passion for martial arts and her commitment to youth development led her to create this gym as an outlet for local kids, helping them gain invaluable life skills and confidence.
Crystal is deeply rooted in the Houghton Lake community, where she is now raising her daughter, a student at Houghton Lake Schools. She is dedicated to strengthening the community, believing that her life’s work—whether in the military, law enforcement, or through her gym—has always been about helping others.
Crystal is proudly supporting the Roscommon County Recreation Fund.
