Charity Thompson, 38
Children’s Pastor and Substitute Teacher
Charity Thompson, originally from Muskegon, moved to Houghton Lake in 2009 with her husband, Andrew Thompson. Together, they have four beautiful children: Avery, Micah, Titus, and Karis. Charity describes her children as the sunshine on her cloudy days.
With a degree in Religion and a minor in Children’s Ministry, Charity has faithfully served as the Children’s Pastor at the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church for the past 15 years. She founded the Creation Kidz program, which has been a joy for her to run and continues to grow with love and dedication. In addition to her pastoral duties, Charity became a substitute teacher at Collin’s Elementary in 2020, stepping in to meet a need she saw within the school. She takes pride in being a positive influence on the lives of students, staff, and administration, always cheering them on in education and ethics.
Charity is also deeply involved in Artesia Youth Park and Community Center, partnering with her husband to bring fun, affordable, and memorable events to the community, such as the Halloween Event. Her passion for making a difference in the community stems from her love for its people and her desire to create lasting impacts.
Charity admires the bravery of the Houghton Lake community in trying new things, even when the outcome is uncertain. This spirit has encouraged her to take action and try new events, always striving to be a reliable presence in the community.
Charity is supporting the Char Fitzgerald Literacy & Education Fund.
